Straight and tapered fissure burs

Also called: fissure bur, #56, #557 crosscut, #169 tapered, #700 series

Cylinder or cone-shaped burs with long blades for cutting straight walls.

Fissure burs have long heads with blades along the sides. Straight fissure burs are cylinders; tapered fissure burs narrow to the tip. Crosscut versions have notches across the blades to cut faster. They are used for cavity walls, crown preparations and sectioning.

How to spot it

  • Long, narrow head with spiral or straight blades; crosscut types show tiny notches.

What it is used for

  • Shaping cavity walls, cutting through crowns, sectioning teeth in surgery.

Safety and care

  • Clean and sterilize, or discard if single-use.
