A study atlas, built like a reference book
Hygiene Atlas is a free website for dental hygiene students and practicing hygienists. It pairs a visual reference for the 19 NBDHE topic areas with active study: flashcards, board-style questions and interactive tools, so the picture, the fact and the practice live on one page.
Why it exists
Board prep is usually split across paid question banks, flashcard decks, scattered technique videos and thick textbooks. Hygiene Atlas puts a visual reference and active study in one free place that works well on a phone between classes or patients.
How the content is written
- Original wording. Every summary, card and question is written from scratch. Nothing is copied from JCNDE materials, prep books or other study sites.
- Traceable facts. Each fact comes from a named public source such as the CDC, ADA, AAP, AHA, FDA or JCNDE. The full list is on the sources page.
- Current guidance. Content follows the 2017 AAP/EFP periodontitis staging and grading, the AHA 2021 endocarditis prophylaxis update (no clindamycin) and the ADA 2024 advice that thyroid collars and lead aprons are no longer routine. Where older material or state rules differ, the page says so.
- Both blueprints. JCNDE expects updated NBDHE test specifications in November 2026. Topics show item counts for both versions.
Images and video
The hero and section art are original 3D renders made in Blender for this site. Photographs, radiographs and anatomical engravings are public domain or Creative Commons licensed, with the author and license shown under each image and collected on the sources page. Videos are official YouTube embeds from their creators; nothing is re-hosted.
