Rubber dam frame
Also called: Young's frame, dam frame, Ostby frame
A U-shaped or round frame outside the mouth that stretches the dam tight.
The frame holds the rubber dam stretched, which pulls the lips and cheeks back and gives a clear view of the tooth. The Young's frame is a metal U with small pins; plastic frames do not block X-rays.
How to spot it
- A U-shaped metal or plastic frame with small knobs or pins around the edge.
What it is used for
- Placed outside the mouth over the dam.
Safety and care
- It sits outside the mouth, but it is handled during treatment: clean and heat-sterilize metal frames, and follow the maker's instructions for plastic ones.
