Rubber dam clamp forceps
Also called: clamp forceps, clamp holder, Ivory forceps
Spreading pliers that open the clamp and place it on the tooth.
The clamp forceps have small pins that fit into the two holes of the clamp. Squeezing the handles spreads the clamp open; a sliding bar holds it open while it is placed on the tooth. Pass them with the two-handed transfer because they are bulky.
How to spot it
- Pliers whose beaks spread APART when squeezed, with little pins on the tips.
What it is used for
- Placing and removing rubber dam clamps.
Safety and care
- Semicritical item (it touches the inside of the mouth): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
