Bird beak pliers (#139)
Also called: 139 pliers, bird beak
Wire-bending pliers with one round beak and one pyramid-shaped beak.
Bird beak pliers have one cone-shaped (round) beak and one pyramid-shaped (square) beak. Wire bent around the round beak makes curves; the square beak makes sharp bends. They are used to form loops and bends in orthodontic wires.
How to spot it
- One round, cone-shaped beak and one square, pyramid-shaped beak.
What it is used for
- Bending wires for appliances and archwires.
Safety and care
- Semicritical item (it touches the inside of the mouth): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
