Placing the saliva ejector

Also called: low-volume suction placement

Bend the tip to rest under the tongue on the side away from the work.

The saliva ejector is a low-volume suction that can rest in the mouth, usually under the tongue on the side opposite the area being treated. CDC warns that fluid can flow back from the line into the mouth if the patient closes their lips around the tip or the tubing is held above the mouth.

What it is used for

  • Bend it into a hook so it rests gently and does not poke the floor of the mouth.

Safety and care

  • Do not tell patients to close their lips around it.
