Hand lotion

Also called: hand cream, moisturizer

Lotion helps prevent cracked skin, but some types weaken gloves.

Frequent hand hygiene dries out skin, and cracked skin can hold more germs. CDC recommends lotions, but petroleum-based or oil-containing lotions can weaken latex gloves. Use lotions your office provides that are compatible with your gloves and hand hygiene products.

How to spot it

  • Office-supplied lotion near clinical sinks.

What it is used for

  • Use the lotion your office supplies, chosen to work with your gloves and hand hygiene products.

Safety and care

  • Avoid petroleum-based lotions with latex gloves.
