Straight handpiece (nose cone)
Also called: straight attachment, straight nose cone, HP attachment
A straight attachment for the slow-speed motor that holds long-shank burs.
The straight handpiece clicks onto the low-speed motor and holds long, straight-shank (HP) burs in a chuck. It is used outside the mouth for adjusting dentures and temporaries, and sometimes in surgery when a sterilizable version is used.
How to spot it
- A straight tube with a chuck at the front and no bend.
What it is used for
- Trimming acrylic, temporaries and appliances; some surgical uses with sterile irrigation.
Safety and care
- Semicritical item (it touches the inside of the mouth): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
