Also called: surgical bone file

A bone file has small teeth set so it removes bone only when pulled. It is used for final smoothing, not for removing large amounts of bone.
How to spot it
- Double-ended with small and large ridged ends.
What it is used for
- Smoothing bone after extractions, using a pull stroke.
Safety and care
- Critical item (it goes into soft tissue or touches bone): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
