Evacuation (suction) line cleaner

Also called: vacuum line cleaner, suction cleaner, evac cleaner

A cleaner run through the HVE and saliva ejector lines to keep them clear.

Suction lines collect blood, saliva and debris and need regular cleaning. Because those lines usually drain through an amalgam separator, the EPA rule bans cleaning them with oxidizing or acidic cleaners (such as bleach, chlorine, iodine or peroxide) that have a pH below 6 or above 8. Pick a product that says it is safe for amalgam separators.

How to spot it

  • A concentrate labeled as an evacuation or vacuum line cleaner, often with a mixing container that attaches to the hoses.

What it is used for

  • Draw the mixed cleaner through each suction hose at the times your office protocol sets.

Safety and care

  • Wear gloves and eye protection; follow the label and the separator maker's instructions.
